A chance for Fox to redeem themselves… plus a great season!,

By C. R. Swanson “wilybadger.wordpress.com” (Phoenix) -

We all know the many, many problems with season eleven’s packaging. To this day I almost never watch that season cause I’m afraid of a: scratching the disks when taking them out of the sleeves and b: ripping the sleeves. It makes me tempted to copy them onto different DVDs so I can watch them when I want to, but of course, Fox doesn’t want us to make copies.

We don’t know what the packaging will be like this time around, though I am guessing it’ll be similiar to the last design, with comic book covers instead of midway scenes, but what we do know is that there are some very good episodes in season twelve! The complete list:

“Treehouse of Horror XI” - The yearly Halloween insanity!

“A Tale of Two Springfields” - A personal favorite! Gotta love the badger at the begining!

“Insane Clown Poppy” - Krusty has an illegitimate child. Only one?

“Lisa the Tree Hugger” - Lisa goes green!

“Homer vs. Dignity” - Homer becomes Burns’ prank-monkey.

“The Computer Wore Menace Shoes” - Any resemblence between this episode and a certain 1960’s British TV series is completely in your imagination, Number Six.

“The Great Money Caper” - Homer becomes an artist. A CON artist! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Ah, I slay me.

“Skinner’s Sense of Snow” - Imagine a snow day where you’re trapped in the school. Sucktacular situation, but a fun episode!
“HOMR” - Homer has a crayon lodged in his brain. Messy.

“Pokey Mom” - Marge kicks it with a fun-loving criminal.

“Worst Episode Ever” - Comic Book Guy falls in love… with Skinner’s mom! Terrifying!

“Tennis the Menace” - Lots of tennis. Yeah, that’s about it here.

“Day of the Jackanapes” - Sideshow Bob and his boy-bomb attempt to destroy Krusty!

“New Kids on the Blecch” - Yeah, it’s got NSYNC, but it’s still a fun episode!

“Hungry, Hungry Homer” - When the owner of the Isotopes tries to move them to Albuquerque, Homer rises to the occasion! Pft. Imagine the idea of Albuquerque having it’s own baseball team. It is to laugh!

“Bye Bye Nerdie” - Eh, not one of the best. It’s a Lisa episode, but kind of, well, lame.

“Simpson Safari” - The Simpsons are goin’ to Africa!

“Trilogy of Error” - Three stories meet up together to make for one good episode!

“I’m Goin’ to Praiseland” - Flanders tries to create an amusement park devoted to God and Maude!

“Children of a Lesser Clod” - Lisa takes up gymnastics and Homer tries to run a day-care center!

“Simpsons Tall Tales” - a fun “anthology” episode centering around old folk stories and legends.

Lots of good episodes here, I just hope that Fox gives us good packaging this time around! They won’t, of course, but I can dream. I can dream.

This set will have a running time of approximately 506 minutes. Video is standard Full Screen. Audio Options are English 5.1 Dolby Surround, Spanish Stereo and French Stereo. French and Spanish Subtitles are also available.

Aforementioned commentaries will, as usual, be available on all episodes with the ever interchanging group of writer’s producers and others who worked on the show. Matt Groening himself only appears on certain episodes nowadays opting not to spend all his spare time in commentaries. Some more noticable appearances are made by commentator’s Joe Mantegna, Chris Kirkpatrick and Hank Azaria as well as Yeardley Smith (Lisa) and Dan Castellaneta (Homer) again making several commentary appearances.

The packaging will most likely be the same as the fan hated packaging for the eleventh season, here’s hoping that FOX will respond to fans outrage by making the packaging for this set different. It would be nice to have a DVD boxed set that actual protects your DVD and makes them easily accessible but I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Artwork on these sets is always well done though.

Anyways, no matter how anyone may individually feel about the Simpsons long run the twelfth season will be out on DVD soon. I’m not yet sure if I’ll personally be buying this season but I do recommend it as 5 stars to fans of the show from the early millenium era and certainly to fans of the show today but probably 3 stars to anyone else. They’d better start releasing these sets faster if they ever want to catch up with themselves. Thanks For Your Time.

easy solution for the packaging issue,

By S. hare “music fan” (san francisco, ca) -

I know I am not alone when it comes to the way season 11 and probably season 12 will be packaged. In those almost immpossible sleeves the discs are crammed into. Once out of that tight fitting slot, just use some of those two sided sleeves or envelopes you get at office depot. They fit back in between the accordian type booklet just fine. It’s a quick low cost solution to the problem. Just thought i’d share that with everybody.

Obviously not for the episodes…,

By Weezy -

Once again FOX took the easy way out and put out awful packaging. At this point the only people buying these seasons are the hardcore fans that have been collecting since Season 1 so why not give us what we want??? These DVD’s are collectors editions so that we can always have any episode at our disposal whenever we want and to put them in scratchy cardboard flimsy packaging is a disgrace!! Go back to the old way for the next season, I can’t take this anymore!

Really?,

By John C. Brindiar -

Okay, first i want to say that i just started watching Simpsons during season 19. I think the show is currently really good and getting back to it’s roots.

I have every box set of this show and love evry season (with the exception of 8). When i read the pre-order reviews, i was stunned to learn so many people thought this season was the beginning of the end. I was even more stunned to learn they were right. I had never watched these episodes back to back before until today. They are not very good. Sure, it has it’s moments (Pokey Mom, Homer Vs. Dignity, Homr [backwards R], Trilogy of Error, Children of a Lesser Clod, and Simpsons Tall Tales), but most of the storylines are so far feched and i never realizd it before until i watched them together. Far fetched story lines include Tale of Two Springfields, The Money Caper, and Simpsons Safari.

Now, for the packaging:
The packaging is slightly better than season 11. The episode list on back has a little flap to hide the flip book style sleeves, giving us false hope for a box inside. It is nice to have a spine on both sides to look like an old boxset from the outside. Also, the cardboard sleeves have little indents where edges of the discs stick out for less chance of scratching. (In case you didn’t know, in the new head packages after season 10, the heads come off to reveal the regular boxes. So, if you prefer the regular boxes, like me, but feel like you should buy the “limited edition”, you can have both and it still matches your other boxes and will fit on your shelf.)

The season gets 3 stars.
Packaging gets 2 stars.

Please, give us season 13 in a proper package!

Great season but I can’t believe they did it again!!!!!!,

By ML “manuell” (Quebec Canada) -

Fox learned nothing from the release of season 11. After all the critizism received for the awful packaging for season 11, Fox did the same thing again for season 12!!! They’re obviously not paying attention or simply don’t care for customer feedback!!! What a dissapointment!!!

Product Description
Olivia is an all-new pre-school series from the creators of the Max & Ruby television series, based on the beloved books. The series is designed to invite preschoolers into the life–both real and fantasy–of an adventurous, can-do 6-year-old girl, her family and friends. Olivia is innately playful and imaginative. She moves in and out of fantasy and reality, imagining herself as a super hero, a pop star, or a mommy. Pre-schoolers love fun and creativity and no one embraces creativity and dramatic play like Olivia. Olivia’s world is created in CG animation, giving the show a 3-D look and feel. The series launched on Nick Jr and Noggin January 26, 2009.

We love Olivia,

By BW (U.S.) -

My toddler and I actually saw this TV show on Nickelodeon before we even knew about the books. We fell in love with the show, so I bought the book and it is my daughter’s absolute FAVORITE. One of her first words is actually “Olivia”. So of course, we give this DVD 5 stars. I’ve been hoping and waiting for months for them to release a DVD of it and I was so excited when they did! I just wish it had a few more episodes, of course ;) but it is a nice length for the price.

Here are the episodes included:
Olivia Acts Out
Olivia and Grandma’s Visit

Olivia Plays Piano
Olivia Trains Her Cat

Olivia and The Crystal Ball
Olivia Plays Soccer

Olivia Packs Up
Olivia Is Invited To Dinner

Hopefully they will release more episodes on DVD soon! We can’t get enough of Olivia :) Search Olivia: Olivia: Artist Not Provided: Movies & TV from AmAzon

By Michael Kerner “Michael Kerner” (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) -

There is no doubt about the appeal that the Looney Tunes have had over the years. While they’ve brought so much in the way of influence from the greatness of Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig, to the wackniess of Daffy Duck, whom later felt more angered about being more like a second banana to Bugs, they sadly in this generation have been misbegotten in favor of others like Spongebob Squarepants and the new Penguins Of Madagascar. Yet with all of that, Mel Blanc’s influential voice and appeal has honestly been forgotten for what he had made as a take into the depths of great voiceovers and animation. That honestly has showed in his final role as a part of the Looney Tunes family.

The 1988 Looney Tunes feature Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters is the final of the classic greats of the original Looney Tunes movies. The movie is finally available for the first time on DVD, and shows no sign of stopping the memory of the looniness. The movie highlights Daffy as a struggling salesman for jokes and gags, whom takes a opportunity to make a dying millionaire’s last laughing days go out with a bang, in a news saying he would give $1 million to anyone who makes him laugh. Daffly later on gets the inherited money, but is haunted by the ghost of the millionaire as a ghost, whom demands Daffy uses the money for good deeds. Daffy decides to make a ghost catching agency, who enlists Porky and Bugs, to help in his aid for catching the spirits. But later on loses his money to the ghost J. Q. Publish, bit by bit, while Daffy tries to make a quick buck while he can, to save the business. The cartoon movie has been remastered nicely, and definitely brings in a lot of laughs from the depths of humor from Jekyll & Hyde, to the haunting of Bugs going looney against of Count Blood Count, who wants Bugs for a quick bite. While it is fun in all, it sadly doesn’t score the joy Daffy brought in nicely from his other film Daffy Duck’s Fantatic Island earlier from the 80’s. Still it is a nice treat.

All in all, if you haven’t seen Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters, than this will be a nice treat for the die hard Looney tunes fan, or if you haven’t seen the looney craziness that Daffy Duck has had for so many years. I loved watching the film years ago, and it does a good job at bringing me me back down a trip to memory lane of my childhood. I hope that you have that great joy too with this overlooked looney classic.

Basically a “clip” show movie. But the bonus cartoons are worth the DVD.,

By Paul J. Mular (San Carlos, CA USA) -

After the success of BUGS BUNNY SUPERSTAR, Warner Brothers cashed in on the theatrical re-issue popularity with movies made up of clips from classic WB cartoons bridged together by poorly drawn & scripted new animation.

Sadly, this would be Mel Blanc’s final work for Warner Brothers.

The story of Daffy Duck inheriting a haunted estate is told through clips from the following cartoons:
Daffy Dilly (not on DVD yet)
The Prize Pest
Water, Water Every Hare
Hide and Go Tweet
Claws For Alarm
The Duxorcist
Transylvania 6-5000
The Abominable Snow Rabbit
Punch Trunk
Jumpin’ Jupiter

Also included as a warm-up cartoon is Night Of The Living Duck.

Warner’s press release talks of the uniqueness of this movie, being constructed out of several unrelated vintage cartoon shorts. Have they forgot about the other 4 movies?

The real reason for Looney Tunes fans to buy this DVD is the three complete bonus cartoons that are NEW TO DVD:

Duck Dodgers & The Return of the 24 1/2 Century (1980).
Not as satisfactory as the original. It was inteneded for theatrical release, but relegated to inclusion in a TV special after WB saw the final product. Daffy reprises his role as Dodgers with Porky returning as his side-kick to try once again to save the Earth from Marvin Martian.

Superior Duck (1996) Daffy once again has super prowers, but this time it is not nearly as fun as the original “Super Duck”. This time most of the Looney Tunes cast join him as well as the original Man Of Steel.

Little Go Beep (2000) An odd Road Runner & Coyote cartoon. The Coyote’s Father (I suppose he had one) tells baby Wile E. Coyote not to speak until he catches a road runner. I guess the Coyote was successful as he spoke to Bugs Bunny in the “Wile E. Coyote, Genius” cartoons.

O.K., my reviews of the bonus cartoons do not make a great sales pitch. If you are looking for good laughs from classic Looney Tunes, I would suggest the Looney Tunes Golden Collections instead. But if you want everything Looney Tunes, like me, then you will need to get this DVD.

The best Pooh sequel,

By Julie Neal “The Complete Walt Disney World” (Sanibel Island, Fla.) -

“Mostly I’m happy… but now all at once I feel so lonely,” sings a uncharacteristically melancholy Tigger in this year-2000 theatrical film, after his Hundred Acre Wood pals finally reject his manic bouncing behavior. Determined to track down “someone like me,” the irrepressible stuffed tiger has several adventures. He eventually learns that family members come in all shapes and sizes, and not necessarily from the same family tree.

Compared to most Disney sequels “The Tigger Movie” has a lot to offer. It’s sweet, with absolutely no hostility, and no more violence than a few bee stings. The animation is surprisingly good — a hallucinatory revue of history’s greatest Tiggers in references to The Brady Bunch, the “Jackson 5ive” Saturday morning cartoon series, Jerry Springer, The Seven Year Itch, even 1930s Gold Diggers films — while backgrounds often retain the soft watercolor look of the classic Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. For the most part Tigger’s sunny enthusiasm is on full display, as are his absoposilutely twisted takes on the English language. All the other classic Pooh characters appear too, including Winnie the Pooh, Rabbit, Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Kanga, Roo, even Christopher Robin.

The voice talent is good, though the only voice from the original film is John Fiedler as Piglet. Both Tigger (originally Paul Winchell) and Pooh (originally Sterling Holloway) are voiced by Jim Cummings, recognizable to Playhouse Disney fans as the voice of Pete on the series “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.” The narrator (originally Sebastian Cabot) is voiced here by John Hurt, who portrays Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter films as well as Professor Oxley in 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

In short, “The Tigger Movie” is the best of Disney’s Pooh sequels. Preschoolers will especially love it, and though the oddball story line has some obvious plot holes (stuffed animals have birth parents?), parents can sit through at least one viewing with relative ease.

P.S. Want another good Pooh sequel? Check out Pooh’s Heffalump Movie.

P.P.S. Fans of Walt Disney World will want to watch that Tigger revue closely. The band playing at the family reunion is a Tiggerfied version of the Five Bear Rugs, the stars of the Country Bear Jamboree.

Archetypal Meets Extra-Terrestrial,

By Chris Pandolfi (Los Angeles, CA) -
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)

This review is from: Delgo [Theatrical Release] (Theatrical Release)

Many will complain about the lack of originality in “Delgo.” Indeed, it’s an archetypal fantasy story about a young, reckless hero, a wise elder, a damsel in distress, a wicked conqueror, and above all, a battle between good and evil. The only thing about this film that’s original is the look, with typically medieval settings pushed aside in favor of a completely fictional, computer-generated alien planet called Jhamora. The characters are anything but human; they’re divided into the amphibious Lokni people, the winged Nohrins, and an assortment of other strange beings that would pass for animals on our world. The pallet reminded me of the colors you’d see swirling on the surface of a soap bubble, bold shades of purple and green and blue with hints of red and orange. The visuals of this movie are so thoroughly extra-terrestrial that I find it hard to criticize them. I thought they were great to look at.

As for the story, yes, it follows a very well established formula to a tee. But did anyone complain about the lack of originality in “Star Wars,” which was also about a young, reckless hero, a wise elder, and everything else I listed earlier? What about the “Lord of the Rings” saga? Or “The Chronicles of Narnia”? Or “Beowulf”? Poking holes in an archetypal story is pointless, in my opinion. If you don’t agree, then you probably never liked such stories to begin with. All I know is that “Delgo” achieves exactly what it wanted to achieve, and because of that, I was able to look past its shortcomings and just enjoy it for what it was. The only thing I wondered about was how long ago it was made; it features a vocal performance by Anne Bancroft, who died in 2005. It seems a little odd that this movie was delayed for so long.

The setup: Long ago, when Nohirn lands became inhospitable, King Zahn (voiced by Louis Gossett, Jr.) made an agreement to share land with the Loknis. It wasn’t long before tensions grew, the Nohrins claiming more land than was necessary. Then Zahn’s power-hungry sister, Sedessa (voiced by Bancroft), launched an unnecessary attack against the Loknis, many of which were slaughtered. She then planned the murder of Zahn, his wife, and his infant daughter; she was caught before she could finish the job, which led to her being banished and having her wings cut off. The Loknis and the Nohrins formed a very shaky truce after that, forming a border that neither species is allowed to cross over.

The story proper: We meet a teenage Lokni named Delgo (voiced by Freddy Prinze, Jr.), whose parents died when Sedessa attacked his village many years ago. Ever since then, he’s been living with Elder Marley (voiced by Michael Clark Duncan), a Zen-like master with mystical powers whose speaks almost entirely in proverbs. As hard as he tries to train Delgo with mind exercises, Delgo is stubborn, careless, and intolerant of the Nohrins. One day, while spending time near the border, he meets the headstrong Princess Kyla (voiced by Jennifer Love Hewitt). While there’s an immediate attraction, there’s also hostility, and it’s made worse when Kyla’s escorts–Raius (voiced by Malcolm McDowell) and Bogardus (voiced by Val Kilmer), both in Zahn’s army–attack Delgo for making a wrong move.

Raius is secretly in cahoots with Sedessa, who’s plotting to steal the throne away from her brother. This involves kidnapping Kyla and blaming Delgo for it, which in turn will start a war between the Nohrins and the Loknis. In order to save both Kyla and their peoples, Delgo and Bogardus reluctantly form an alliance; hopefully, they can put aside their differences long enough to stop Sedessa and prevent Zahn from launching the first attack.

No archetypal story would be complete without some comedy relief. On the Lokni side, there’s Delgo’s best friend, Filo (voiced by Chris Kattan), who sounds like a tweaker on a bad amphetamine high. On the Nohrin side, there’s Sedessa’s servant, Spig (voiced by Eric Idle), a bumbling dragon-like creature. Neither one adds much to the story, but then again, that’s not what comedy relief is for. Filo and Spig provide the audience with a break from the action, and nothing more.

If what I’ve said hasn’t piqued your interest, then it’s probably best you avoid this movie. As I’ve already said, “Delgo” gives us nothing new in the way of story or character; with the exception of the visuals, it’s about as formulaic as it gets. I’m recommending it mostly because it delivers at a basic level–you want a tried and true fantasy, you’ve got a tried and true fantasy. Some may not appreciate the animation, and I agree that it wasn’t as polished as it could have been. Still, I’ve seen worse-looking CGI characters (”Star Wars: The Clone Wars” comes to mind). Ultimately, you’d be doing yourself a great disservice by expecting anything more from “Delgo” than what it promises. It functions in much the same way as a children’s bedtime story: It’s enjoyable even though it’s been told to us time and time again. Consistency is always more comforting than originality. There may come a time when we will want a new story, but until then, we have movies like “Delgo” to keep us entertained.

Delgo, A movie To See,

By David Press -

I went to see the movie Delgo today at the Regal Cinema. Before I left I checked my email and right there on the front page of Yahoo there was a news release that Delgo was the biggest flop ever bringing in only $511,920 this past weekend. They didn’t even make the top ten. Since I had already made plans with my friend to go I decided to ignore the critic’s response to this movie, and I’m very glad I did. I didn’t want to take my eyes off of it for a second. The special effects were magnificent. It was a wonderful thrilling movie for a rainy afternoon. It should have done better financially.
I feel like maybe it was because it opened a couple of weeks before Christmas beginning on December 12th, and there were a couple of new Christmas movies playing. And then there were some great children’s animated movies playing, “Madagascar 2″ and “Bolt”. We had already seen those, and they were good but I can honestly say I enjoyed “Delgo” the most. Regretfully the rating I believe is just from bad timing. This movie is rated PG and will be viewed mostly by teens and young adults. It is wonderfully written computer animated movie. The scene is set in a fantasy land and there are a lot of different creatures with different personalities.
It is an action packed science fiction/fantasy story based on a forbidden love between two teens of two different backgrounds and worlds. Delgo (voiced by Freddie Prinz Jr.) was a boy who was adventurous, athletic, and reckless who must face a troubled past of conflicts between the Lockni Village and the Nohrin Army. The Lockni are reptilian looking and the Nohrin look like winged ugly fairies. The girl he falls in love with is Princess Kyla (voiced by Jennifer Love Hewitt) who is spunky, charming, and big hearted but she is from the other side; the Nohrin world.
Kyla’s father; King Zahn (voiced by Lou Gosset Jr.); a nice and cautious leader cast out the evil Sedessa (voiced by Anne Bancroft) and cut off her wings fifteen years ago for killing the Queen. Sedessa who is enchanting and power hungry rebuilds her evil reputation. It’s up to Delgo and Kyla to stop the war between two civilizations that are divided by fear that is started again by the forgotten enemy.
And would I watch it again? Yes I would and I would buy it on DVD when it becomes available so my grandchildren can watch it. It was great entertainment, and I would recommend everyone to ignore the critics, and decide for your self by going and seeing this very well made adventurous movie.

The Bigggest Bomb of all time comes to DVD!?,

By Alex Thrawn “thrawn03″ (USA) -

I never thought they would have the guts to put this on DVD. The film lasted 6 days in the theater and is the worst grossing film of all time to open on 2000 screens or more. Could be one awesome commentary to hear how it all went so, so wrong. I actually saw the film the day it came out, along with a few hundred others in the world so I feel “special” to say that since it will be rare for anyone in history to say they actually saw this weak film opening day.
