Awesome Old School Meets New School Action Sci Fi Horror!!!,
By Andrew Ramstedt “The Good Worm” (San Diego CA) -
Good acting by all. The critics that slammed this movie beforehand probably never even saw it and they can all go and f*#k themselves for ripping such a well thought out and inspirational movie. One as@h&*le critic said that all of the mutants looked the same. Wrong!!. Jerk never saw what he was ripping. I think ( Hope ) that there is a special hell for people that slam others without cause or mercy. The movie actually had a story that was nicely paced and well thought out. Definitely not boring. Long movie builds to a climax. Very intense in parts. Loved it. Can not wait to watch it again. Bluish color dominates film. I would have liked to have seen some technicolor at spots. Also had actual character development so I bonded with the players. You actually care for the heroes as they are giving up their lives. Creepy as hell. Great thrills. Gory with foul language. Had an old school vibe with lots of veteran British actors. If it seemed boring to some it is because it was telling a story. There can not be a gratuitous scene of violence in every frame. “Where was the car chase?” Loved the decapitations with the spewing blood. Oh my!! What more could a guy want? His chick to sit quietly by his side supporting him through this special time at the movies. Also had the classic story of the importance of sacrificing the one to save the many. Good morality tale if you can look beyond the gore.
Evil Mutant Machine must be destroyed,
By Lynellen Perry “lynellen.com” (Dumfries, VA USA) -
We watched this on the SciFi channel because we like some of the actors in it. This is a rather typical post-apocalyptic ’save the world’ storyline. The movie starts with steam-punk trench warfare a la World War One; and then the mutants are unleashed. Of course some nice monks have been saving the knowledge of how to defeat evil (think 5th Element) and they gather a band of unlikely heros to destroy the machine that is making the evil mutants. Meanwhile a small portion of the Earth’s population flees to colonies on Mars. Lots of predictable fighting transpires as the hero team gets killed off one by one. Then the main hero plugs in what is supposed to be a bomb and activates it, and the evil mutant machine is actually a spaceship that launches. The closing scene shows the ship arcing towards Mars. Poetic justice and all that. A solid B-level movie, very dark, very violent, and pretty boring.
