VCI Entertainment presents “LAST OF THE MOHICANS” — (17 May 1932) (224 mins/B&W) (Dolby digitally remastered) — Mascot Pictures present James Fenimore Cooper’s immortal classic with 12 Chapters of vintage serial episodes jam packed with thrilling action sequences and stunts that will keep you on the edge of your seat — our story opens with Hawkeye (Harry Carey) known to everyone in the American wilderness as the of the Mohicans and all white settlers there abouts — can Hawkeye, Chingachgook (Hobart Bosworth) and Uncas (Frank Coghlan Jr) win the battle against the evil and vicious Magua (Bob Kortman) and his band of renegade Indians — will the protection of Hawkeye be enough from the traps that are set by the French and their allies the Huron warriors — this Mascot Serial is one of the best with nonstop action in every episode bar none, completely goes over the top and then some — but don’t leave the theater until the final chapter is over and done with “End of the Trail” — return next week to this local theater for another episode of action and adventure that will keep you thrilled until the next chapter.
Special footnote — Harry Carey and Edwina Booth played opposite in the epic “Trader Horn” (1930) and another Masco Serial “The Vanishing Legion” (1931) — also actor Nelson McDowell once again was cast as the music teacher David Gamut a role he played in the silent version of 1920 “The Last of the Mohicans” with director Maurice Tourneur — many veteran character actors from the Mascot lot appear in this 1932 serial Bob Kortman, Walter Miller, Edward Hearn and Yakima Canutt (King of the Stuntmen) — meanwhile back to our Mascot Serial which is always good till the last drop and this serial is no exception — there is a great deal of entertainment here for the cliffhanger fans out there — all courtesy of VCI Entertainment, who in my humble opinion is the best there is in restoring early serials and features.
