Product Description
From Mamoru Oshii, the world-acclaimed director of Ghost in the Shell comes an award-winning story of an exciting but endless war with heroes too young to understand the meaning of their battles. A group of eternally young fighter pilots known as Kildren experience the sudden loss of innocence as they battle the enemy in astonishing dogfights above the clouds. With his only childhood memory consisting of intense flight training, the fearless teenage pilot Yuichi’s dogfights coexist with his struggle to find his missing past. When his beautiful, young female commander Suito is reluctant to discuss the fate of the pilot that Yuichi is replacing - or the strangely perfect condition of that pilot’s former aircraft - Yuichi’s curiosity becomes heightened.

I see the sky crawlers Toronto ‘film festival 08 s and wasn ‘ t surprised when most of the audience seemed to walk away feeling a bit unaffected by the film. The film ’s the director Mamoru Oshii has a cinematic style that is not nothing if not an acquired taste - one that is quiet home theater purchase.
Anyone who has been hooked to the traditional structure of the story will be Aristotolean feeling lost and purposeless act through the center of the 2 crawlers in the sky and most of Oshii ’s movies If there is even a 2 act in the first place. The big action sequence of the opening of the blast from a fighter pilot in the sky crawlers is about as formulaic as Oshii is willing to get any of his films. After that, he transitions from the action of the speed-of-light the story of the speed-of-life where the characters and their dialoug all have the same step and the meandering of real life. That means, if you ‘used in reference to Hollywood ‘ s colorful characters swelled with jokes and a plot that runs right to the end zone, you Oshii probably find the ’s for films be slow. Perhaps even hole.
It also means that you ‘with no reference to his likely audience.
Oshii the ‘primary audience appears to be s itself, as most of its characters appear to be alter-egos that help them solve their own conflicts and philosophical questions about society. Its secondary audience is anyone who tries to do the same for themselves. I put the ‘t mind looking Oshii’s talk to be in his films since the dialogue is so clever and modest. In general the characters say what they mean and mean what they say. Can ‘t afford to do otherwise, because we are finding in the dark, introspective moments in their lives when pruning is generally a person of all pretense. This is exactly why Oshii is the “cinematic language of s such that restore. Despite its enormous graphic visual depictions, the film managed to have a closer kinship to literature cinema. Listening can be more important than looking at his films. For example, the characters in the sky crawlers speak Japanese on earth, but the switch to English when at war. This effect seems to be commentary on how the American occupation has changed since the habits of Japan of ’s youth, which according Oshii has become more violent.
There are times when the source itself, but I took care of this film. Oshii offered a very frank message to the youth before the release of this film, stating that he wanted the young people appreciate the film. But the calming nature of the film may struggle to penetrate the shell of narcissistic people he hoped to achieve. Oshii the ’s work is elegant and the crowd that he is generally expected to play a smart-**. Two different things.
If anything, this film finds a home with a smart crowd that is already familiar with his approach shots. I ‘m glad that this film was caught for the DVD release by Sony. Oshii the ’s understanding and discipline is an import awarded to viewers of American film.
