The film had its moments of humor, but they were few and far between, and likely as not to be found within a scene or character profiles deleted. In fact, some of the funniest bit is with the real stars of poker which are aspects of cameo in the film.
The story centers on a poker tournament $ 10 million have called the large (hence the name of the film). The film was made on location in the old section of Las Vegas, in and around the nugget of gold. Woody Harrelson is the main character in the film and the only one in the tournament that tries to win for the semi-altruistic reasons. Misleading a heavy drug and alcohol, who has lived in a rehabilitation center for several years, he wants to buy the casino he inherited from his uncle’s death and then lost by various combinations of substance abuse and stupid decisions.
Of all the main characters, Woody Harrelson is perhaps the most enjoyable meal with Dennis taking a close second place. Courtesy Richard ’s character is funny at first but it quickly becomes boring and you are happy when he makes his exit. The rest of the crew is a combination of medium and / or pathetic in different amounts.
The film is somewhat educational in that, if you know nothing about poker, you will learn some boundaries and some of the techniques used by professional players. It is also good because he doesn ‘t paint in beautiful colors really the game, because players are generally pathetic losers, each with their own idiosyncrasies and lack of social skills to paralysis. Harrelson ‘abuse of substance s is painted in a light even pathetic - he managed only to move out in his hotel room after his bender .
There are some small attempts to promote family reconciliation, but those involved were pathetic and vivid way that it is more comforting than a disappointment.
If someone is really in poker and / or think the cut-down and insults are the size of the mood, they probably really appreciate this film. If someone is a huge fan of Woody Harrelson, or a fan of one of the other stars in the film, they probably appreciate this film. At Amazon ‘current price of S $ 10, you can take a chance and see if it is probably for you, but you ‘ about probably find it for $ 5 or less in a criminal case of some in two or three months.

When Zak Penn not writing movies about X-Men, the incredible carcass and Captain America, made some short films of weird indie.
And monitoring incident at Loch Ness is an animal far more regular - a kind of mockumentary about a professional poker competition, and the range of weirdos are linked to it. It begins rather slowly, but quickly hits Penn not - the resulting film has all the Vegas ‘glitz light and the factor of Christopher Guest whim lost sight of long mockumentary.
That Jack Faro (Woody Harrelson) has inherited casino lucky rabbit du ’s foot of his father, but the casino has fallen difficulties - mainly because Jack is addicted to everything he can sniff, inject or drink, and it ’s sixty-married fourteen times. As the film opens, it ’s living in rehabilitation for two years of law.
Now a casino mogul (a gloriously relentless Michael McKean) will shave the rabbit le ’s foot unless Jack can produce money. His only hope is to win the general, a professional poker competition against some of the greatest poker players in the world - including the housewife frustrating his brother unpleasant, wise-vitriol reprimanded, a ruthless veteran, a psychopath and a German professor capital amputation of frostbite in the world.
Thus despite the general sponsor, Faro joins him. But to save the rabbit le ’s foot, it ‘ s not only from having to survive the first round - it will use the opportunity and competence to deal with the most cut-throat and / or talented poker players in the world. Tensions rise as the players work towards the final round - but who will win ten million dollars?
When a character says carefully to the camera that sets out the oath of Mentat before I drink my, brain juice you know that Penn struck comic gold. The first ten minutes of large are rather difficult, since Penn presents only the general idea and Faro de ’situation s. But once he begins to introduce the characters and bringing them together, the mockumentary gets truly mobile.
This mockumentary follows the basic formula - a camera follows the characters around, and they talk seriously about bizarre things. Killing animals, Star Trek, Pyromania ( j’a received this torch as this marriage ), inclinations and gain competition ( I want to see the other crushed and disappear and crumble, German says the peace of a true psychopath). Even commentators poker entering the weirdness ( and it ’s easy with the cards instant patented Mike Werbe! ).
And along the way, some characters are quite a strange substance, like Jack hitting a fairly new employee only to find it ’s one of his exs-innumerable women. Since the characters spend many hours sitting, Penn must compensate with lots of dialogue in a fun ( also you take the corn in your teeth ) and it ’s good to make things just slightly too surreal.
Despite all the caprice, it would be easy for great increase in length because it ’s basically about people playing a card game, albeit for high-stakes. But Penn ’s hilarious writing taunting ( where are you, your country is it that everyone is as unhappy as you? ) And the rapidly shifting visions of the band and casinos keep things interesting . A good number of light, flash and spark.
Harrelson has a nice full work as much-married heir Vegas, which seems to be perpetually stoned and laid-back lorsqu’étant even ejected from his own casino. But you can see a little desperation in the scene with Michael McKean, who is absolutely hilarious as the evil, strange Lavisch Steve (he uses a helmet shock when he looks at his model construction).
And other players are also great - Cheryl Hines is excellent as the wife who supports his family because of her husband ‘obsession football imagination s, while the meal is delicious Dennis wicked, as Chris Parnell is unspeakably rude and strange ( your bet on the river was as transparent as Romulan bird of prey hidden! ), and David Cross is as terrifying bulb Hines ” identical sister brother.
And Werner Herzog deserves a special shout-out to play in German. Yes, that name character le ‘of s. The general manager has a wonderful work and straight-faced as a poker player who clearly loves insane kill small animals, and an information point, Melvin YOU I crashed. He ’s impressive.
Grand Launches satires, fortunately the wonderful world of pro poker, and much fun along the way. Definitely one to check if the work of Christopher Guest were also in the cards.
Not very funny

I like comedies usually comprehensive, but not the latter. He started full of hope with Woody Harrelson doing some really funny lines as recovery fanatic (fanatic so bad he lives in a drug rehabilitation full-time), who, while on a binge, takes out a loan his father ’s casino with a land developer (Michael McKean). Checks out of the woods rehabilitation to join a game of poker called large , in hopes to offset the loan and recover his casino. Just between the film down in a ball of flames BORING now. I had me to finish out. I won ‘t give away the end, but eventually many a BORING.
I ‘t recommend this comedy, which is sad because there are some really good actors in this film. Just not a fun movie.
