DVD Review: Stealing Lincoln’s Body: Various, History: Movies & TV
Product Description
One of the strangest, most intriguing, and yet almost unknown episodes in American history unfolded in 1876, eleven years after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. A band of Chicago counterfeiters hatched a plot to steal the President’s body from its tomb outside Springfield, Illinois, and hold it for a ransom of $200,000. A paid informant told the newly formed Secret Service. When both the police and the criminals showed up at the cemetery on the appointed night, the scheme was foiled.
This feature-length special from History explores the peculiar confluence of historical trends and cultural movements that prompted the crime: the birth of counterfeiting, the growth of embalming, and the influence of secret societies in American life, among others. But above all, the story shows how important this beloved President remained to a public so unprepared for his violent death in 1865.
Startling and informative, this is one of those tales you have to see to believe.

Stealing Lincoln on ’s body,
By Daniel Siciliano (henderson, Nevada USA) —
Very informative documentary. Most people have no idea what was our sixteenth president the ‘body over until he sa ‘ final resting place of some of s 30 years after his assassination. You knew that the original Lincoln the ‘tomb s had to be rebuilt due to the guilty, or to bury the president ‘ s body in the basement of the tomb (not in the vaults to top ) over a decade for fear of another attempt at stealing it! This film enters the great detail on how the body was preserved, the journey across America and steal diagram. Digitaces reconstruction of the body in the coffin and Lincoln itself. A must for the skins to the history of Lincoln historians and those just curious. Well worth it!
To be for any skin to Lincoln! ,
By Robert A. Simons Lincolnut (Monroe, MI USA) —
I loved this gem in the history of the past but what is really facinating technology used fact that Mr. Lincoln come to life . What we see walking down the stairs of the house white, walking down the street that tilts its hat to the people as she walks around and, with his wife Maria, sitting in the box at Ford ’s theater in the time of his murder by a gun pulled to the back of his head in the hand of John Wilkes Booth’s agent. It’s just like watching the clips real Lincoln bringing it to life (and death) again. This is a be for the collection of any admirer of our sixteenth president who died just five days after saving the union of the United States after four years of bloody civil war. *****
