Product Description
In this intriguing series, HISTORY examines the impact of the seven deadly sins on mankind throughout the ages.
We learn how the concept originated - as a way to keep a lustful fourth-century monk from sinning again - and how they were pared down from eight to the seven we recognize today: gluttony, lust, greed, anger, sloth, envy, and pride. For the Catholic faithful they became a guide on the path to heaven. To repeat offenders, they promised damnation in Hell and very specific, very gruesome punishments. Gluttons, for instance, would be force-fed rats, toads and snakes.
The warnings couldn’t be clearer: Succumb to any of the seven deadly sins and God’s judgment will be severe.
This series consists of 7 x 1.0 hr episodes.

Loving this DVD is not a sin,

This is one of my favorite productions to brandish the HISTORY CHANNEL logo. I watched the first two episodes on television during the first “7 Deadly Sins” marathon when it first aired and was absolutely glued to the TV. I never got to see more than the first two and had to wait for the DVD pre-order to arrive to finish the adventure.
The two discs run a total of five and a half hours. That’s a lot of DVD for under $20. (as of now). The first disc has four sins and the second has what most believe to be the Three Capital Sins. The chapters for each episode are surprisingly well broken up considering this is a ‘lower profile’ HISTORY CHANNEL production.
The noir presentation and production suits the material perfectly. Instead of the typical documentary style that can hamper a message it is trying to convey, this goes all out. I see lot of documentaries that do little to enhance the narrative and it’s not the case here. Ingenious is the use of ‘digital paper cut-out’ transition scenes and digitized dramatization scenes. True, some of the scenes are badly acted, but it adds to lighten the atmosphere of the content.
And being a huge fan of Dante’s literary masterpiece DIVINA COMMEDIA, using Dante’s work to illustrate the penalties of sin is an obvious signature for each episode. Now I kind of wish Flight 33 Productions would interpret the Divine Comedy on film. Not just Hell, but Purgatory and Heaven as well.
Though being a “Christian focus”, the DVD does well to consider the views of Judaism, Islam and the scientific and/or secular communities to further validate the concern of each sin.
Even if you are theologically well-versed and studied, this is still a nice resource to have and is entertaining to boot.
Must have!,

When I saw the first episode of this series on TV I was so taken that I knew I needed to get my hands on the DVD set. There was a problem, I was about to travel to my other home outside the US in Colombia, South America for the next 8 months. I didn’t want to wait. The DVDs were not yet in stock at Amazon so I ordered them express from History Channel direct.
I have not been disappointed. Impressive graphics and good explanations are in each episode. There is repetition of a couple minutes about the explanation of the history the of the 7DS on each DVD. I suspect this was done for History Channel wanted the ability to air each program individually without the need to watch the “1st one.”
The only other part that was silly (But a reality) was the prominence of the Priest who performs Exorcisms. It was fine to include him, but too much air time. This alone does not detract from the 5 stars.
I’ve researched many subjects in regards to the 7DS as it relates to evolution of the mind and 2012. Check my profile for more information.
The 7DS highlights the need to KNOW (GNOstic) and defeat the ONE true ENeMY –> INeME –> IN ME.
You are your own worst enemy as the saying goes…so KNOW thysELF.
