(REVIEW OF PRINCIPAL 10)

Sherlock Holmes, Columbo, Hercule Poirot - the genius detectives are usually a little weird. But no other is as bizarre as Adrian Monk, the obsessive detective.

And first and second seasons Monk managed to make an odd twist to the traditional TV show detective. Elegant Shalhoub shines as everyone ‘favorite obsessive detective s, which solves the case with his gift / curse and his desire to go anywhere this doesn ‘ t have germs.

The monk Adrian la ’s wife Trudy were killed in a car bomb, and Detective sorry fell apart completely and had to leave the police force. Some years later, the monk (elegant Shalhoub) is partially recovered, but he is obsessive and has dozens of phobias. The only way that control is with his assistant Sharona (Bitty Schram) Keep children.

When a politician is almost killed in a mysterious shooting, the police are baffled. Thus Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) calls against the heart in his old friend to solve the case. Therefore, the monk is called in dozens of cases bizarre and embarrassing. His excellent memory and OCD ( it ‘gift of SA. And a curse ) allow him to see patterns and details where others see nothing.

The cases that follow are no less confusion - The monk is supposed to deal with a psychic, a financial grotesquely obese that can not get out of bed, to stab a Ferris wheel, a murder in an asylum, a aggressor billionaire, an alibi marathon, vacation gone wrong, an earthquake, a date, a French murderer and a murder apparently committed by Willie Nelson.

And in the second season, the monk takes a temp job at a prestigious school to see if a teacher le ’s suicide was really a murder - especially as the only suspect has an alibi waterproof . In addition, he traveled to Mexico to solve the mystery of a man who drowned in mid-jump parachute.

Other cases: a brutal shooting of a President and his wife, the murder of the world the man of the older s, murder of a man condemned for a head track ‘acrobatic death of s, bomber comatose, a trip to a thin-veiled manor of play-boy, a paperboy murdered, a lethal TV star as a secret in a pie cherry excited Disher father ’s new, and a rope totally random periodic massacres.

Monk is the kind of exposure that usually gets canceled after five episodes - it ’s well-written, funny and smart. Thus by TV standards, the fact that it lasted even a season - let alone several - is nothing miraculous shortly. The first season is not quite the best, but things smooth out in the second season.

There are fighting firearms and records, as any exposure can of wire, but the main focus here is on detection. The authors are entitled to propose all sorts of bizarre crimes or insoluble, only the monk could unravel. Besides the dialogue, which leans heavily on the mood dry ( you ‘ve got to be a little skeptical, Sharona. Otherwise you end up the belief in everything - UFOs, elves, tax Revenue reimburses )

But the serial wouldn le ‘t be what it is elegant without Shalhoub. He played roles in movies strange as the MIB and , search for galaxy and so it is balancing out the monk le ‘weirdness and genius s not weigh too heavily on one or the other. And they do a brilliant job with the monk la ’s devotion to his late wife Trudy, who is so strong and pure that you ‘ years never had known of the past. The scene where he brings a group of sexy busty friends to tears with his wife ‘last poetry of love, s is pure brilliant.

Schram Watson serves as the monk, and his mother simply hard-edged New York is a nice foil, adding to its own whims mixture (such as its unconditional elephantphobia). Levine and Jason Gray-Stanford are excellent as the head of Police Stottlemeyer and comforting (if slightly awkward) associated serious Randy Disher. And we get presented to monk au ’s brother Ambrose who is really way, way worse.

First and second seasons Monk are a beginning to a full series of smart and unique comedy / mystery, with plenty of insoluble crimes and strange problems. I ‘gift of SA and a curse.
