DVD Review: Harlan Ellison: Dreams with Sharp Teeth: Harlan Ellison, Robin Williams, Neil Gaiman, Erik Nelson: Movies & TV
Product Description
Crackling with infectious energy, Dreams with Sharp Teeth pays homage to the dark prince of American letters, Harlan Ellison. Master of his craft, Ellison has heroically produced over 75 books and 1,700 articles on his Olympia manual typewriter, including Star Trek episodes and brilliant, award-winning short stories, some written in bookstore windows, on very public display.
Wildly imaginative writer, foul-mouthed provocateur, unholy fusion of Lenny Bruce and Hunter S. Thompson, Ellison’s remarkable personal journey is lovingly rendered by director Erik Nelson.
The film draws on over 25 years of exclusive video footage that captures Ellison at his most irritating and inspiring, curmudgeonly and lovable. See Ellison rant about the idiocies of fandom, confess to mailing a dead gopher to a publishing house, recall his tortuous childhood, and speak about the joy (and misery) of writing. The film features candid interviews with famous and surprising friends, including actor Robin Williams, author Neil Gaiman and Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica), who flesh out Ellison’s prodigious contributions to the literary and entertainment worlds, as well as their very personal encounters with this unique Force Of Nature.
Whether a die-hard Ellison fan or someone tragically uninitiated, Dreams with Sharp Teeth will amuse, inspire and edify.
Over 80 minutes of bonus material including: Six Bonus Harlan Ellison Readings; Pizza with Harlan and Neil Gaiman; ”An Evening With Sharp Teeth”: The Film s Premiere; Trailer

Mouth could
By D. Kavin prisoners (Los Angeles, CA USA) —
I saw this movie last night in a full theater and I liked it actually. I think my Harlans ’sister caught his eye and would have spoken if not for my being in possession of a book published without his consent he told me to lose.
If you know anything about Harlan you know he can raise the decibel level, but what I appreciated here was the moments of Harlan who spoke fondly, passionately and exclusively reserved for his father ido long.
He is a man who lives by the phrase put up or closed , if you can the ‘t hold its own in print or person he will let you know because he understands what hard work and talent can be developed achieve.
He is a strong narrator (clearly) and he knows and I know you will too if you care or not (and should).
Watch this movie simply for the joy of watching the death of the tradition of working the animated narrator’s art. 75 In Harlan is all p-ss and vinegar that he never had and that is a gift to us all.
One of a kind
By Looking at the (Long Island, NY) —
Harlan Ellison is a much-awarded writer, whose prose almost legendary, it will take to places that her weak imagination could ever dream of. Finally, a documentary about his life.
Vi dreams with sharp teeth last year at a convention of science fiction with the present of Harlan Ellison. It is an excellent film, to be sure, but it is the single item that makes it so requires. Writing spectacular though, there is nobody (I repeat, ANYONE) who speaks like Harlan Ellison. He is the most that is literate, well informed, bitter, stubborn and just plain entertaining speaker that I heard each. (Gore Vidal recently saw on Bill Maher ’s television program, I make that statement quite a pause. If you want something to be effective only self-sufficient, Mr. Vidal, takes a lesson from Harlan Ellison.) That your memory is damn near perfect (75, we should all be so lucky) and its principles are unwavering. Tom Snyder called the last angry man and its refusal to accept the unjust makes it an indomitable force. Do not under any circumstances, cross Harlan Ellison.
All these things make this movie good fucking beautiful and highly visible. It tells the story of a totally unique individual. If Harlan Ellison has heard you speak, you have already asked the film. If not, this is a very reasonable alternative.
