Presenting a bleak, harrowing, and yet ultimately hopeful vision of humankind’s not-too-distant future, Children of Men is a riveting cautionary tale of potential things to come. Set in the crisis-ravaged future of 2027, and based on the atypical 1993 novel by British mystery writer P.D. James, the anxiety-inducing, action-packed story is set in a dystopian England where humanity has become infertile (the last baby was born in 2009), immigration is a crime, refugees (or “fugees”) are caged like animals, and the world has been torn apart by nuclear fallout, rampant terrorism, and political rebellion. In this seemingly hopeless landscape of hardscrabble survival, a jaded bureaucrat named Theo (Clive Owen) is drawn into a desperate struggle to deliver Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey), the world’s only pregnant woman, to a secret group called the Human Project that hopes to discover a cure for global infertility. As they carefully navigate between the battling forces of military police and a pro-immigration insurgency, Theo, Kee, and their secretive allies endure a death-defying ordeal of urban warfare, and director Alfonso Cuaron (with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki) capture the action with you-are-there intensity. There’s just enough humor to balance the film’s darker content (much of it coming from Michael Caine, as Theo’s aging hippie cohort), and although Children of Men glosses over many of the specifics about its sociopolitical worst-case scenario (which includes Julianne Moore in a brief but pivotal role), it’s still an immensely satisfying, pulse-pounding vision of a future that represents a frightening extrapolation of early 21st-century history. –Jeff Shannon

Kids for men of Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron, was one of the most unusual success stories of 2006. While not a blockbuster by any standard, this unconventional film was all but abandoned by a study that didn ‘t know how to put it. Positioned to launch during the first Oscar, this is not a film that was backed as a potential candidate. However, as there was almost universal acceptance of the critical rolling in - a smaller But a loyal fan base discovered and embraced this movie. Children of Men ended up, therefore, with great acclaim and admiration, decent box office, a more extensive, and 3 award nominations from the Academy (script, editing, and cinematography).
In an interesting twist on the genre of drama of apocalypse, children of men to present a world that is destroying a whimper compared to an explosion. For there is no cataclysmic explosion forcing humanity to confront the ’s death has . No, in this case, people have simply lost the ability to reproduce - and the youngest person alive is now approaching adulthood. Of course, during the years of follow-up (the film is set in 2027) this ongoing tragedy, there has been a social breakdown provided. Now, the streets of London are ravaged by terrorism and extremist groups are fighting to overturn the content, and possibly complicité, government. While this may seem like a broad canvas and epic, children of men of many issues covered within the heavy relatively straightforward story of its protagonist, Clive Owen. Draw Owen, a former activist now disconnected something back into a world he does not want any part de. The most unlikely and most reluctant of heroes, Owen confronts his own ideology and apathy when an extremist group introduces a pregnant teenager. Fearing that the exploited, used or otherwise manipulated by political factions that war -he decides to deliver a utopian society (and perhaps mythical) whose only interest is in saving humanity. Get your free from the controlling clutches that bind her and crossing a country plagued by insurrection, children of men is turns into a brutal and horrific picture of the action with the violence that is similar to much of what we see on the TV news today.
Owen has long been a favorite of mine. Taking notice of it in dealer (asylum and if you ‘t got this great piece of noir, please), his rise to power of the films I have absolutely impressed . He electrified as on near that I even forgave him for done derailing. Here, he is the perfect antihero - and his evolution from a disinterested party removed a patriot is a weak plant indelible portrait of a man rediscovering a purpose and what life means. Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, and lead the Ashitey Clare-Hope (as the pregnant team) a mold capable of support. The feeling of the documentary film of the ’s action of the board game pieces the material well, and conflicts are made well and all too plausible.
Now, there are many politicians who will begin discussions of children of men (none of which engancharé in here) but what I admired about the movie the ’s script is how it is being approached. Without being given a lecture or coupling to unnecessary speechifying this film plays as straight action. And while there is a revelatorio moment near the end that almost goes too far (but is understandable within the context of the film), children of men lets you draw your own conclusions. Just the history and leaves many of his own interpretation to the viewer. That, to me, is always a satisfying choice. If you see this film as action, sci-fi, political allegory or combination of the three - he ‘S. worthwhile and entertaining film of A. KGHarris, 03/07.
?Brilliant film! ,

Children of men have emerged in Spain today and is fantastic.
The argument is completely original and the acting is superb. Clive Owen is captivating as a man caught between his pain from his past and hopes for a new future of the world.
The basic premise is set in the year 2027 women and 18 years ago the mysterious stops being able to have children. The company has begun to crumble because it disappeared all hope of the future.
Tiran Owen the ’s character (Theo), ex-activist, in an underground terrorists group has found something that will bring hope to the world, but the hidden agendas and distrust are threatening to pull the only hope left separately.
Cinematography and certain designs are top notch, and with a supporting cast that includes Michael Caine and Julianne Moore, takes only one big story that next level of excellence.
Also the soundtrack is really well chosen and used music to great effect in some scenes, for example King Crimson ’s court crimson king is particularly effective.
Highly - recommended.

Thought I would add that I just saw the movie for the second time today. The visual poetry and ideas because they have remained quite strong thought in my mind since I saw her last in October. The second time around the film attracted only so many thoughts and emotions as the first.
As some of the other reviewers have mentioned that this is a very real science fiction feel. The problems of man ¢ ana in this film seem aligned with many of the issues that we are burying today in our increasing dependence on chemicals (many with unknown side effects), or the garbage that we put in our environment and last and certainly supreme faith of decline we have anything beyond our sciences in which we measure reason, and that trust.
The children of men have become my favorite movies. And I hope that anyone with a thirst for consideration get a chance to see this brilliant film.

While I loved the movie, I suggest strongly that you read the book too. There are differences between the two and, of course, verbal descriptions of the characters ‘thoughts are often hard to reproduce on screen. Almost always, sacrifices must be made in writing - and this film is no exception. However, I feel that the film stays true to the intent and the message of the book and it is an absolutely wonderful movie.
It is futuristic and if you know anything about the author of the book in which this film basa (PD James) you know this isn ‘t usually a history of mystery. But it is one of my favorite works that she has written, telling of a time when people are sterile and hope that lies when there is a chance that someone can produce a child again.
The government gets involved and there are political messages and arguments side, all set against a certain atmosphere, dark. This film will make you think and find the real possibility of a future where nearly standard infertility is not outside the realm of possibility. Even if you put ‘t, what ifs? Keeps you interested in this film and dominant Clive Owen proves that he is becoming more interesting as an actor that comes on time.
