- Acting a bit contemporary
I should start by saying I’m a theatre professor and I might notice things the average person would not. But I am not a film critic and film is not my forte.
Overall I love this story and this film version has beautiful costumes and scenery and is largely true to the text. There are times I felt the acting was a bit contemporary in terms of gestures, emotion and expressions. - Well-done
Is it possible to do a poor film adaptation of anything by Jane Austen? Probably, but excellence in the writer seems to inspire excellence in film-making. This adaptation of one of her more complex tales is quite well-done. I particularly liked Fanny Price as played by Billie Piper. She plays the role of a poor child who must come to live with a wealthy relatives quite well, and it’s an inspiration to see her growing confidence in herself and her character, despite her lack of proper “breeding.”

- Masterpiece Theatre - Mansfield Park
I love the Jane Austen series done by Masterpiece Theatre. I’ve never seen any other version of Mansfield Park, so I don’t have anything to compare. I just enjoy the 1800’s English Setting and the romance.

When I came across this one, I read all the reviews (most of which were poor) and quickly went the other way. I first watched the 1999 version, it having better reviews, and I liked it quite a bit (aside from thinking “Where is William?”). But, still curious, I came back to this version, having always liked the adaptions this group put out, and was astounded that it could recieve … Read More

Just wasting some free time on Digg and I found your entry. Not normally what I prefer to read about, but it was definitely worth my time. Thanks.
