Amazon.com:
If you’re a fan of brooding comic-book antiheroes, got a nihilistic jolt from The Crow (1994), and share director Alex Proyas’s highly developed preoccupation for style over substance, you might be tempted to call Dark City an instant classic of visual imagination. It’s one of those films that exists in a world purely of its own making, setting its own rules and playing by them fairly, so that even its derivative elements (and there are quite a few) acquire their own specific uniqueness. Before long, however, the film becomes interesting only as a triumph of production design. And while that’s certainly enough to grab your attention (Blade Runner is considered a classic, after all), it’s painfully clear that Dark City has precious little heart and soul. One-dimensional characters are no match for the film’s abundance of retro-futuristic style, so it’s best to admire the latter on its own splendidly cinematic terms. Trivia buffs will be interested to know that the film’s 50-plus sets (partially inspired by German expressionism) were built at the Fox Film Studios in Sydney, Australia, home base of director Alex Proyas and producer Andrew Mason. The underground world depicted in the film required the largest indoor set ever built in Australia. –Jeff Shannon

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Includes Digital copy, but…
The bluray directors cut comes with a second disc with a digital copy on it, as is becoming popular with many releases. The digital copy in this case is a restricted Windows Media Video, which is not Mac compatible, according to the included insert (ironically, the graphic directing you to insert the disc in your computer is a MacBook. go figure).

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Good blu-ray quality. Story didn’t hold interest.
Even though the story was meant to keep you wondering what was really happening, I found it to be rather boring and complicated. Scenes with the bald guys recurred too often and were not interesting. There are some good special features. Director’s cut offered considerably more content. For a movie which was supposed to be dark, the quality was good, but the scenery was bland.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A FILM OF COMPLEX ENIGMAS? ODDLY: YES!!
In all of the reviews, someone must have made the connexion; but for those just now looking to buy this film in the Blu-ray edition, I should say a word or two.

First: the picture quality is excellent. The pictures look much more solid; and the sound is fantastic. If you have even a portion of the equipment, you can get much out of this movie. The “much” they provide.

But is it complex? Is the storyline a visionary enigma which baffles the viewer? Is there something deeper that we … Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A hidden gem
A brilliant movie made even better in Blu-Ray. A great Sci-fi story with wonderful performances by Rufus Sewell, William Hurt and Keifer Sutherland. Highly recommended.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 3.5 stars out of 4
The Bottom Line:

Marred only by a somewhat out-of-place and formulaic action sequence near the end, this otherwise-perfect film deftly blends a fusion of times and genres into a spellbinding movie.
